DIY Doggy Shampoo
Bucky and Faith constantly get compliments for their soft hair. And people are surprised to hear that we make our own dog shampoo! This recipe contains only 3 ingredients; two of which you probably already have at home. We make a large batch at a time and keep it in an old jug. For bath time, we like to use an old dish soap container. The squeeze function is really handy when you’re wrestling a dog during a bath!
While we make a gallon of shampoo 1-2 times a year, you probably don’t need that much. The recipe below is for 20 oz of this super-duper soft fluffy doggy shampoo. Please let us know if you end up making it!
Ingredients
1/4 cup of dish detergent
we like the lavender scented one because lavender repels fleas
1/4 cup of white vinegar
2 cups of warm water
Tools
a medium to large bowl
a large spoon or something to mix with
an old container that holds at least 20 oz
an old dish soap bottle or an old shampoo bottle
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup of dish detergent, 1/4 cup of white vinegar, and 2 cups of warm water. Allow the mixture to come to room temperature and then store in a container.
Usage
Over time, the soap will settle at the bottom of the container. All you need to do is gently rotate the bottle until the contents are mixed up again. Be careful not to shake as it will create bubbles.
We bathe our dogs once a month and repeat the following process twice: during bathtime, I just squeeze the bottle over the dogs’ coats, lather, and rinse. I also take my time rinsing because I’m afraid to leave any residue behind.
